Panorama using a wide angle lens vs. stitched images from a larger focal length |

In a discussion on the forum on DPReview (click here for the thread, last post 01.05.2007), I was surprised to learn that using a wide angle lens compared to using several images from a larger focal length generated the same image. I was pretty sure that the image from the larger focal length was different than from the wide angle. To test this, I took a (boring) landscape picture using a 16mm wide angle lens, 12 images to make (more or less) the same image using a 50mm lens, and 33 images with a 100mm lens.
Below are the images from the differnet lenses. The 16mm image was corpped a bit to fit the wiew of the other stitched images. |
